Active Stirling’s volunteer walk leaders recently completed All-Ability training at Forthbank Stadium, organised by Scottish Disability Sport.

This training, in collaboration with Paths For All, was designed to equip our walk leaders with the tools and knowledge needed to make our walks more inclusive for people with long-term medical conditions and disabilities.

The session featured both classroom learning and a practical experience where our leaders went on a short walk using equipment like blindfolds, wheelchairs, noise-cancelling headphones, and walking aids. This hands-on approach helped them better understand the challenges some participants face during Active Stirling’s weekly walks, allowing us to enhance safety and enjoyment for everyone.

At Active Stirling, we’re committed to providing opportunities for everyone to take part in physical activity, especially those with long-term medical conditions or disabilities. Walking is a fantastic way to meet new people, get outdoors, and boost your step count. We offer different levels of walks, so it was important for us to give our walk leaders the skills and confidence to support those who might need a little extra help.

Health Walks

We offer a range of health walks in various communities across Stirling each week. These are short, gentle, and welcoming, covering up to two miles and suitable for all ages and abilities. Best of all, they’re free and don’t require any booking. Find out more.

Community Walks

Our community walks take place every Saturday, starting from Macroberts Art Centre at the University of Stirling. These walks are a bit more challenging than the health walks, lasting between one to two hours, and they’re also free to join. Find out more.

Walk Forward

For those who enjoy a tougher challenge, the Walk Forward programme is perfect. Available every Tuesday, these walks are designed for advanced walkers who can handle more difficult terrain and inclines. All walks are free to join. Find out more.

Nordic Walking

If you’re into Nordic Walking or want to give it a try, we’ve got a programme for that too! Beginners will need to complete some training first. All walks are free to join. Find our more.

We can't wait to welcome new walkers to join us!
