We’re thrilled to share how we’re taking strides to strengthen community connections and inclusivity through walking!

In partnership with Paths For All, we recently hosted a Walk Leader Training course at Forthbank. Led by Matthew Tanner and Laura Taylor, the session brought together passionate volunteers and staff, equipping them with the skills to enhance the accessibility and success of local walking initiatives. Together, we’re empowering more people to lead and support community walks across Stirling.

Growing Our Walking Network

Our goal is simple but impactful: to expand our Walking Network and increase the number of Walk Leaders. By growing this team, we can inspire even more people to join us on community walks and help everyone stay active, connected, and included.

Two of the attendees have been long-time walkers themselves and are now stepping up as Buddy Walk Leaders! This unique role allows them to support other leaders while continuing to enjoy the walks they love, showing our commitment to an inclusive and supportive environment.

Walking Together as a Community

All our Walk Leaders are registered as Active Stirling Volunteers, giving them access to great perks like our annual ‘Walk Leaders Thank You’ lunches and the chance to be recognised at the Active Stirling Volunteer Awards, happening in June 2025.

This is the third Walk Leader course we’ve hosted this year, and it’s exciting to see our walking network grow stronger each time. Without our incredible volunteers, these walks wouldn’t be possible. By introducing Buddy Walkers, we’re ensuring everyone has the support they need while fostering a truly inclusive community. We’re already planning more courses in 2025!

Walking and wheeling are not only fantastic for physical and mental health, but they’re also a wonderful way to socialise and meet new people. At Active Stirling, we’re committed to expanding our walks into more areas across Stirlingshire. To do this, we need enthusiastic Walk Leaders and Buddy Walk Leaders who are ready to step up and support their community.
