Our SportAbility programme, funded by Sportscotland, aims to foster a love of sport and physical activity among school aged children, young people, and adults with disabilities and additional support needs.
We are dedicated to increasing opportunities through a range of different sport and physical activities. Our goal is to create sustainable opportunities, provide training and support to enhance confidence and competence to create inclusive environments.
The investment from sportscotland has empowered us to develop a range of new opportunities, share joy and fun through physical activity and social connection. We can now offer training and expert support to our local clubs. Participants have the chance to try a range of sports, develop their skills, and build their confidence.
Recently, we held an exciting Boccia event for primary and secondary school students across Stirling - the event welcomed over 70 pupils, all eager to demonstrate the boccia skills they’ve practiced throughout the year.
Boccia, a Paralympic sport designed for seated play, provides an inclusive and accessible experience for children and young people with physical, sensory, and learning disabilities, including autism and neurodiverse needs. Players compete by aiming to position their red or blue balls closest to a white "Jack" ball, requiring both strategy and precision.
Here's some highlights from the Boccia event!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SPORTABILITY PROGRAMME?
For school aged children, young people and adults to join our SportAbility programme, please contact harveyg@activestirling.org.uk
We have established a disability forum that includes representatives from education, social work, Plus, Riverbank Day Centre and SDS. The forum also includes young people with disabilities and family members.
If you would like to attend, please contact Graham Harvey or Angela Hunter.
Our support extends to Stirling schools by providing support as part of the school day in addition to increasing extra-curricular opportunities for young children. We are working in partnership to develop and sustainable pathway into local community sports clubs, helping to build the inclusive capacity of these clubs.
Our focus is on facilitating the transition from school-based activities to community involvement, ensuring a positive and lasting engagement with sport and physical activities.
